Classics Books Lecture Series
The 2012 season of our popular Classics Books Lecture Series begins Thursday, January 26, 2012 and continues to Thursday, May 3, 2012. The series of lectures features distinguished, award-winning professors from The University of Michigan Department of English and Literature surveying classics books. These professors will ignite your enthusiasm for the classics with their knowledge, wit and passion.

Once again the Friends of the Grosse Pointe Public Library partners with the University of Michigan Department of English and Literature to present the Classics Books Lecture Series for 2012. These professors will ignite your enthusiasm for the classics with their knowledge, wit and passion.

Admission at the Door :
Friends’ Member: Free
Non-Members: $10.00 per lecture
Students and Teachers: Free with identification.
(There are no presales.)

All lectures are at 7:30 p.m. at Grosse Pointe South High School, 11 Grosse Pointe Boulevard at Fisher Road in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.  Friends members, students and teachers with identification have free admission. General admission is $10 at the door. (There are no presales.) 
 
One does not have to have read the books to enjoy the lectures which are always interesting and allow time for audience discussion. Everyone from teenagers to octogenarians and beyond have attended these talks by the University of Michigan professors, who each bring a wealth of fascinating literary and historical information.

Attendees need not have read the books slated for discussion but will undoubtedly be inspired to do so after attending this first of its kind intimate lecture series! Guests will enjoy a one-hour lecture followed by an informal discussion with the professor.

If you wish to join the Friends of the Grosse Pointe Public Library and attend all or any of the lectures at no charge please complete a membership form (pdf) (you may obtain an application at any used book cart or at a branch circulation desk) and remit it as soon as possible. In addition to the free Classics Books Lecture Series you will be notified of and invited to participate in additional Friends sponsored library events. Your Friends membership fee/donation will support unique programs and purchases for the Grosse Pointe Public Libraries.

When you arrive at Grosse Pointe South High School, enter the parking lot from Grosse Pointe Boulevard and park around the back of the newer "S" Building. Follow the signage into the school and proceed to the lecture location in the auditorium.
